I think one of the biggest problems is -- and I'm going to try to be delicate here -- if doctors make statements about nutrition, those statements are quoted. The problem is that doctors don't know nutrition. That's not what they study. If you ask any doctor, half of them have never studied nutrition, and the other half has taken one course in medical school. That means one hour a week for six to eight weeks. If you read two good books, you know more than most doctors about nutrition.
Mike: Well said.
Barron: Doctors -- if you think about it -- control the agenda and what nutritionists learn. |

This is the best way to be sure that you're getting a full complement of fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, microalgae, and other food sources that can provide peak nutrition for you.
High-density whole food concentrates provide real nutrition
In the world of holistic nutrition, we take whole foods from nature that are grown organically, or we take microalgae and other superfood supplements, and we dry them, grind them up, put them into powders, and then encapsulate those powders or shape them into pills or tablets. That's the way to get your nutrition in the modern world. |

Nervous system health is so dramatically influenced by this kind of nutrition – green drinks and whole food concentrates. In my experience, I've seen people reverse symptoms of dementia. What have you seen? I'm curious.
Dr. Weiss: Well, number one, I say that you're not even in the game until you restore nutritional status. You don't know how sick they are. You don't know if senile dementia is because of nutritional issues. Once you restore them to healthy nutrition, then you find out what remains of their health. You find out what can't be restored. |

They take a perfectly healthy piece of raw food, loaded with vitamins and natural medicines, then nuke it in the microwave and destroy most of its nutrition. Humans are the only animals on the planet who destroy the nutritional value of their food before eating it. All other animals consume food in its natural, unprocessed state, but humans actually go out of their way to render food nutritionally worthless before eating it. No wonder humans are the least healthy mammals on the planet. |
| But you don't get much nutrition, either.)
Why microwave users are so unhealthy
Consumers are dying today in part because they continue to eat dead foods that are killed in the microwave. They take a perfectly healthy piece of raw food, loaded with vitamins and natural medicines, then nuke it in the microwave and destroy most of its nutrition. Humans are the only animals on the planet who destroy the nutritional value of their food before eating it. |

Aim for a combination of food-based and supplement-based nutrition. Personally, I start each morning with a superfood smoothie that contains a massive serving of various superfood concentrates. This preps my body for the day, allowing me to engage in intense exercise without entering into a nutritionally deficient state.
Remember when you exercise, you place a much higher nutritional demand on your biochemistry. If you do not supplement, then you are not going to get the results you expect from your exercise program. |

That means when you purchase a subscription to HSI right now, you'll not only be getting what I consider to be the top nutritional discovery newsletter in the business, you'll also be supporting our nutrition For Expectant Mothers program that aims to deliver honest nutritional reference guides to one million expectant mothers over the next few years. It's an important program, and it's not often that you can help others while helping yourself at the same time, but this is certainly one of those opportunities. |

This incredible oversight will, in time, prove to be a monumental mistake in the understanding of nutrition. The USDA believes that dead, cooked spinach has precisely the same nutritional value as raw, fresh spinach (and most of modern medicine agrees!). In time, the vast nutritional differences between cooked and raw foods will become mainstream science. Until then, please read everything from the USDA with a grain of (sea) salt. What follows is text published by the USDA:
1. What are phytonutrients and where are they found?
The term "phyto" originated from a Greek word meaning plant. |

Though many states and local school districts are undertaking heroic efforts to improve the nutritional quality of foods sold in schools, the junk-food industry fights those efforts tooth and nail," said CSPI nutrition policy director Margo G. Wootan.
"The industry likes to say school foods should be subject to local controls," said Wootan, "yet it strikes back at the efforts of parents and health professionals when they try to act locally."
Bottom line
Congress could pass a law which restricts junk food within the public school system. |

The Child nutrition Promotion and School Lunch Protection Act calls on the USDA to update what CSPI says are "disco-era nutrition standards" for school foods (e.g., vending machines, school stores, and a la carte in the cafeteria).
The Act would take the USDA's current standards of limiting the sale of foods of minimal value, currently applicable only to cafeterias during meal times, and extend it to apply throughout the school day and everywhere on school grounds. |

Give them high-quality nutrition, give them the supplements, and give them a clean environment. Prevent the toxins, and you will have healthy animals and healthy humans. All the things we talked about for humans -- that whole discussion -- also applies to the animals.
Mike: I find, too, that for some reason, veterinarians are far more open to nutrition than human doctors. It seems like the pharmaceutical industry is really trying to take over veterinary medicine to put pets on the same drugs, and have even pet health insurance so they can pass costs around. |

Currently, women dominate the readership of natural health newsletters and magazines, and they're typically the one member of the household more clued in to nutrition for both adults and children. Men typically lack in-depth knowledge on nutritional issues and are often the ones defending unhealthful diets based on processed meats, homogenized dairy and refined grains. But here's why this trend is changing...
Men's bodies are just as sensitive to unhealthful foods as women's bodies. |

How much can healing foods and a healing lifestyle change you in terms of blood chemistry? As you may know, I posted my own blood chemistry results at www.HealthRanger.org to prove a point on this. By consuming a healthful diet based on an organic, partially raw / vegan diet with nutritional supplementation, a fair amount of physical exercise, and minimal animal products, I've achieved LDL cholesterol of 67, HDL cholesterol of 62 and a resting pulse of 48. |

But here you are, and you know nutrition.
Dr. Weiss: Well, I was first a naturopathic physician, then I became a cardiologist. So, for me to exclude nutrition from my platform for health, that's beyond me. I don't understand how you can practice medicine without nutrition. I mean, you've got to talk about daily habits. We're talking about greens products from Enzymatic Therapy and bringing good things in – clean products, good tasting products – to change your daily habits so that you receive rewards 20 years down the road.
Mike: Yes, definitely. |

The talk focuses on nutrition secrets for preventing and reversing disease and will reveal dangerous food ingredients to avoid, the healing properties of selected fruits and vegetables, and many other nutritional topics for avoiding disease and maximizing both mental and physical health. Most of the information to be presented at the event remains unknown by most medical doctors and health care providers, and none of it is taught in medical school. |

REPPED: People simply can't get adequate nutrition by going to a grocery store, loading up on healthy foods and chewing their way through groceries. Given the nutritional profile of today's foods, it's physically impossible for a human being to do so. To make matters worse, most people don't eat optimum foods to begin with. They eat foods that are nutritionally depleted.
They drink a lot of cow's milk, which actually has poor nutrition for human beings given that it is designed for baby cows, not baby humans. |
| So don't make the mistake of thinking that nutrition simply means calories. Often, around the world, when you hear the term 'malnutrition', you're shown images of thin, bony children who haven't had anything to eat. But in fact, Americans look just like that underneath all the fat. They are malnourished, they are diseased and they continue to suffer from malnutrition caused by the consumption of nutritionally depleted foods such as pancakes, white bread, candy bars, soft drinks, breakfast cereals, pastries, processed foods, junk foods, snack foods, and many other items. |

Across the United States, Canada, most of Europe and even Australia, there is virtually no requirement that doctors learn nutrition before they receive medical licenses and begin to practice medicine -- a fact I find absolutely astounding. There are exceptions in certain schools and regions, of course, but most medical schools teach no nutrition.

Review by the Health Ranger
Transition nutrition is one of my top ten highest recommended superfood companies. I've awarded this company two "best of show" awards over the last three years, and their food products continue to be among the best in the industry. You think you know what a cashew tastes like? |

REPPED: In learning about nutrition, we often hear that certain foods contain a certain amount of vitamins and minerals. This is especially true in fruits, vegetables, and other produce, but very few people understand the truth about this information, which is that most of the published values about this nutritional content are not correct. This is especially true among minerals, and that's the point of this story.
Most of the produce you buy in a grocery store does not have anything close to the mineral profile it is supposed to have according to nutritional textbooks. |

As long as drug companies and the FDA continue their medical monopoly in the United States, doctors will continue to emerge from medical schools utterly ignorant of the foundations of nutrition. The FDA will regulate, ban or outlaw more herbs and nutritional supplements while Big Pharma pushes patented chemicals as the solution for every health symptom, disorder, or disease... fictitious or otherwise. |

So you wouldn't be able to get much nutrition from those tomatoes if you ate them raw. Certainly, they're good for you in their raw form, and that's the best way to eat them, but that's not going to meet your nutritional needs.
In contrast, if you were to take these 10 tomatoes and dry them, and then grind them up into a powder, and then shape that powder into capsules or tablets and consume those, you could easily eat those 10 tomatoes and enjoy all their nutritional benefits. It's all about the density of nutrients. |
