But that's not all: Recently, the CRN (Council for Responsible nutrition) suggested that functional foods currently being sold in the United States might have too much nutrition and should be strictly regulated so they don't provide too much funtional nourishment to consumers. This is part of the global effort to actually reduce the nutritional impact of food and unleash widespread nutritional deficiencies that will result in trillions of dollars in new profits for pharmaceutical companies. (CODEX is also part of this same effort to neutralize the nutrition in the food supply.)

In other words, people eat too many calories but not enough real nutrition. The result is, of course, what we see today: Epidemic rates of diabetes, cancer, heart disease, depression, kidney failure, liver disorders and much more. These diseases are all caused by a combination of malnutrition and exposure to toxic chemicals (plus other factors such as emotional trauma, lack of exercise, etc.). |

Few people really know one of the most important secrets to making "The Secret" work: Establishing the right nutrition and dietary habits that clear your nervous system and allow intention to flow. In this article, I'll share some of the best nutritional secrets about The Secret, covering:
1) Foods and substances that interfere with the power of your intention.
2) Foods and substances that enhance the power of your intention.
Once you learn this information, you'll instantly discover ways to greatly enhance the effects you get when you apply your intention (or invoke the Law of Attraction). |

You don't want to take superfoods every day and rely on that as your only source of supplemental nutrition. You don't want to take only the Alive! Whole Food Energizer supplement and rely on that. You don't want to rely on any one brand; you want to have a variety of nutritional products so that you're getting whole food sources from three or four different manufacturers on a daily basis. This is the best way to be sure that you're getting a full complement of fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, microalgae, and other food sources that can provide peak nutrition for you. |

Earlier estimates of dietary intake that approximated 650 mg per day (Kuhnau, World Review of nutrition and Dietetics, 1976;24:117) are generally thought to be too high as the estimate was based on data that were generated by "old" (less specific) methodology. Scientists at the Food Composition Laboratory, Beltsville Human nutrition Research Center are currently developing new methodology for the accurate measurement of polyphenols in foods.
Polyphenols can be classified as non-flavonoids and flavonoids. |

Lovejoy: Well, it actually goes back to 1970, when I started with nutrition and really studied nutrition for my own health. Then many things happened. I was a cosmetologist, so I knew that I wanted to formulate a product that would be great for connective tissue, hair, skin and nails. I had also owned restaurants for 15 years. At the same time, I studied.
I'm also a nutritionist and an herbalist. Everybody would come to me and say, "What do I take for this and this? |

If you read two good books, you know more than most doctors about nutrition.
Mike: Well said.
Barron: Doctors -- if you think about it -- control the agenda and what nutritionists learn. They are the people who basically control what food is served in hospitals. Anyone who has smelled or tasted hospital food knows it's not nutritional. It doesn't support healing, which is why many people smuggle food to friends and family in the hospital.
Mike: Yes. Hospital food can kill you. It's not an exaggeration.
Barron: It provides basic calories, protein and synthetic vitamins. It's nothing. |

From there, you have to understand that those foods provide those nutrients and much more in a full spectrum of great nutrition.
It's also important to take these supplements from several different sources. You don't want to take only superfoods every day and rely on that as your only source of supplemental nutrition. You don't want to take only the Alive food supplement and rely on that. You don't want to rely on any one brand; you want to have a variety of nutritional products so that you're getting whole food sources from three or four different manufacturers on a daily basis. |

Another reason you don't hear much discussion on the correlation between nutrition and chronic disease in the popular press these days, or among practitioners of conventional medicine, is because most of the revenues generated from conventional medicine actually come from the treatment of the symptoms caused by nutritional imbalances and deficiencies. In other words, the big money makers for conventional medicine are diseases that are in fact caused by nutritional deficiencies and nutritional imbalances in the first place. |
| REPPED: If nutrition is so good at preventing and even reversing chronic disease, why isn't it taught by the practitioners of conventional medicine? Why isn't your doctor giving you the fundamentals of nutrition? Why don't you see television ads promoting nutrition?
The reason is quite simple. There's no profit in it. Let's face it, conventional medicine is a commercial entity. Pharmaceutical companies are in business to make money. They want to maximize their profits. |

It's simply the most compact form of nutrition straight from Mother Nature. Note, too, that you can't buy it. You have to make it yourself, in your own kitchen, on a regular basis to drink in fresh. (I make mine once a day and store it in glass jars.)
Follow it a little or a lot
You want to know something else truly incredible about Juice Feasting? You can follow it a little or a lot. You could be eating steak, pizza, McDonald's Big Macs and straberry shakes, and yet you'd still benefit tremendously from drinking just one quart of Juice Feasting juice per day. |
| Even the USDA has some intelligent things to say about nutrition these days (I know, don't be so shocked!). Even though the following document is nearly two years old, it still offers some eye-opening information about the role of plants in preventing and reversing degenerative disease:
This is from the USDA's own Agricultural Research Service (ARS): http://www.ars.usda.gov/Aboutus/docs.htm?docid=4142
(Note, in case they move the page, I've included the full text at the bottom of this article.)
So what is modern medicine finally discovering? What are we learning in all this? |

Why conventional medical researchers remain nutritionally illiterate
Western medicine still doesn't "get" nutrition. They think all health effects are achieved by single, isolated chemical constituents. But nutrition doesn't work that way. In nature, for example, Vitamin C is not a single chemical, but rather a symphony of complementary phytonutrients that work in concert. Conventional medical researchers almost never test plant medicine using full-spectrum nutrients. Why? Because they don't understand the concept of nutritional synergy.
The bottom line? |

Read on for the answers to how doctors are educated about drugs (and not educated about nutrition), and how research bias and marketing tactics of the pharmaceutical industry affect your doctor's choices.
GENERIC AND BRAND NAMES FOR DRUGS
You will notice that most of the drugs described in this book have both a generic chemical name and one or more brand names. For example, Mevacor is the brand name of the cholesterol-lowering drug lovastatin. A generic drug will go only by its generic name. |
| There are no known nutrient depletions in the newer antidepressants, although nutrition does have a significant role in treating depression.
TRICYCLIC ANTIDEPRESSANTS: amitriptyline (Elavil), nortriptyline (Aventyl, Pamelor), imipramine (Tofranil), and norimipramine
This older class of antidepressant is used less frequently due to the high number of side effects.
Actions: They work in various ways to affect the actions of norepinephrine and serotonin. |
| Every person who takes prescription drugs needs to know about drug-induced nutrient depletion, and about how to effectively balance this side effect with appropriate nutrition from foods and supplements.
In this book, I deal primarily with drugs intended for long-term use that cause slow depletion over time with serious effects—ones that mainstream medicine rarely traces back to the medication. In fact, the allopathic game plan usually entails adding more drugs to counter what is really attributable to drug-induced nutrient depletion. |

Give healthy gifts this year
What's really great about these gift baskets from Transition nutrition is that they make it easy to give your family, friends or coworkers something healthy for a change. Too many people are still buying huge processed meat sausages (see our Hickary Harms cartoon on the right), and as a result, they're actually giving people cancer, diabetes, heart disease and obesity for Christmas!
Sounds silly, but it's true: Most processed food gifts end up giving their recipients an increased risk of serious disease. |

Good micronutrient nutrition, which also includes iron, zinc, manganese, chromium, and antioxidant nutrients such as the mineral selenium and vitamins A, C, and E, bring enhanced energy, memory, blood sugar regulation, and immunity.
The recommended rfaily allowance (RDA) of essential nutrients is intended to be available entirely through food. In reality, it is impossible to get these levels through the food available to us today, because our soil has become depleted in essential nutrients. |

Review by the Health Ranger
Transition nutrition is one of my top ten highest recommended superfood companies. I've awarded this company two "best of show" awards over the last three years, and their food products continue to be among the best in the industry. You think you know what a cashew tastes like? Until you've tried their creamy raw cashews, you've probably never tasted a truly delicious cashew. The quality of their cashews, mac nuts, pistachios and other ingredients are simply at a completely different level than the commodity nut products you might be familiar with. |
| REPPED: Superfood innovator Transition nutrition has announced the launching of seven superfood gift baskets. Made with ingredients like premium quality cashews, cacao brittles, goji berries, macadamia nuts, Golden Himalayan Raisins, and macadamia nut butter, these gift baskets allow consumers to give healthful, nutrient-rich gifts this holiday season.
The gift baskets range in price from $29.95 to $99.95 and are available now at http://www.RoyalHimalayan.com/giftbasket. |

In spite of our need for nutrition, the bottom line for farmers is making a living, and hybrid produce makes it possible.
Our food industry, due to special transportation and storage techniques, has been able to make a wide variety of fruits and vegetables available nationwide throughout the year. The variety is good. But these are made available at a sacrifice. Green harvesting means picking fruits and vegetables before they are mature. Shipping food over long distances requires cold storage and other preservation methods, which allow for depletion of vital nutrients. |

And here's one thing you can be sure of: The quality of the foods from Transition nutrition is simply outstanding. The recipient of your gift will be astounded at the quality of the foods their tasting.

This is a very important scientific fact when it comes to the principles of cellular nutrition.
Cancer cells, on the other hand, continue to absorb antioxidants and supporting nutrients without knowing when to quit. This intake of excessive antioxidants actually makes the cancer cells more vulnerable to cell death. Antioxidants not only aid in the battle against cancerous cells, they improve the defense of healthy cells against the damaging effects of radiation and chemotherapy. |
| Why aren't more doctors responding to nutrition as I have? First, physicians must be skeptical in order to protect their patients against any scheme or product that could be harmful to their health. Believe me, I have seen plenty of gimmicks and quackery peddled to my patients. Physicians must rely on scientific research studies conducted through double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials (the standard in clinical medicine).
Because I know it's the most effective evidence available, I present only clinical trial study results in this book. |

I'm always looking for a better deal for you, our valued readers, especially when it involves ways to introduce you to exceptional information that's 100% aligned with my own philosophy about nutrition and healing.
So Jenny and I worked out a deal. Here it is: Normally, a customer off the street pays $149 for a two-year subscription to HSI (issues are mailed out monthly). Through direct mail offers, some people end up getting two years for $79, which is a good deal (it's nearly 50% off the cover price). |

REPPED: One common misconception about nutrition is thinking you only have to take one multivitamin a day, and then you're set. People think, "OK, I've covered all my vitamins and minerals for the day because I took this one pill, and that's it." I have to laugh at that, because even though multivitamin pills may be helping them in some way, they don't provide sufficient nutrition for peak health or disease prevention. |
