(NutritionHeadlines) The Consumer Wellness Center, led by Executive Director Mike Adams (editor of NutritionHeadlines), has announced its seventh grant in its Nutrition Grant Program. The Consumer Wellness Center (CWC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to promoting nutrition education. The Executive Director position is a non-paid position.
Second Graders at Coldwater Canyon Avenue School in CaliforniaOur seventh Consumer Wellness Center nutritional grant of $1000 has been awarded to Leonard Newsome, educator at Cold Water Canyon Avenue School; a 501(c)3 non-profit located in North Hollywood, California.
The Consumer Wellness Center grant will enable Coldwater Canyon Avenue School to provide a nutrition program for sixty second-grade students. The grant will provide tools for a school garden, a digital camera for a student-created digital nutrition newsletter, and field trips.
The nutrition education will focus on the importance of healthy eating and will holistically demonstrate the symbiotic relationship between fresh produce and everyday life. First, it will show the importance of nutrition in education by linking it with the three fundamental school subjects. The children will use Mathematics to measure and plan several organic gardens, Reading to learn about good nutrition, and Writing to express their personal nutrition experiences.
Secondly, the program will demonstrate a variety of ways in which fresh produce enhances daily life. Local master gardener volunteers will model healthy living as they assist the students in garden cultivation. Field trips to the Vital Zuman Organic Farm in Malibu and the local Farmers' Market in Santa Monica, California, will enable the students to experience the origins of market produce and fresh fruits and vegetables in the real world.
Thirdly, the students will receive the opportunity to celebrate earth's nutrition through their own voices. A digital newsletter will display student poems, writings, activities, and images.
Mr. Newsome has committed to reporting back to the Consumer Wellness Center with letters from the children and pictures of the garden project. The improvement of knowledge and diet will impact every aspect of the students' lives, and Mr. Newsome promises to share their progress every step of the way.
"We are extremely pleased to be able to offer this $1,000 grant to these grade school students in California," said Mike Adams, the executive director of the CWC. "With the help of Leonard Newsome, this relatively small amount of money can go a long way towards introducing these students to the joy and benefits of real, living food!"
Background on Leonard Newsome and His Second-Grade Students Leonard Newsome has been teaching for eighteen years and earned a Master's degree in Educational Administration. Coldwater Canyon Avenue School is a Title 1 school in the Los Angeles Unified School District. (Title 1 schools consist of economically disadvantaged populations, and they supply free lunches to all students.)
Mr. Newsome's students, aged seven to eight years old, experience weight problems, little exercise, and an unawareness of good nutrition with fresh produce. Instilling valuable knowledge, the nutrition curriculum will have an immeasurable impact on the lives of the students, helping them achieve increased physical energy, better health, and higher test scores. Mr. Newsome is determined that his students be able to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables every day.
Congratulations to Leonard Newsome and his second-grade students at Coldwater Canyon Avenue School for earning the seventh $1,000 nutrition grant from the Consumer Wellness Center.

Sponsors of the CWC include Boku Superfood (www.BokuSuperfood.com), Ed Group's Global Healing Center (www.GHChealth.com) and many others.
Our Nutrition Grant Program awards $1,000 grants to individuals or institutions dedicated to the promotion and sharing of nutritional knowledge among children, expectant mothers and other important groups.
The grants are awarded based on the number of people that can be positively impacted, the detail of the grant proposal and the enthusiasm and commitment of the teacher or administrator using the funds. Each award recipient is asked to report the results of the grant program to the CWC. Our intention is then to post these nutrition "success stories" on NutritionHeadlines.com so that the most effective strategies of nutrition education can be shared with the world.
Donations are needed to continue funding the CWC's nutrition grant programs. If you or your organization would like to make a tax-deductible donation to the CWC, you may do so at this page: http://www.consumerwellness.org/Spo...
Thank you for your continued financial support. With your help, we are pioneering new models for nutrition education and lifelong wellness.
